V&A Village Fete
Event Graphics / Copywriting / July '09
Curated by Scarlet Projects, this annual event is a contemporary take on the traditional village fete. 30-40 designers and studios are invited to conceive and host stalls that allow the public to experience and interact with design in an informal, fun way. See our previous stalls here and here.
2009's fete was the tenth, and we were honoured to be asked to create the event's theme and programme to celebrate this fact. Our original idea of a jubilee street party seemed very apt, but we felt maybe 10 years wasn't quite long enough, so thus invented 100 years of fete history.
The souvenir programme consists of a page for each decade the fete has (supposedly) been in existence. These pages are a tongue-in-cheek homage to the graphic styles of each decade, and use a mixture of found historical and archive fete photos, captioned with juvenile in-jokes that both glorify and parody the people who have made the Village Fete so great over the last ten years. The 12 page tabloid programme is printed on newsprint to give it a false air of newsworthy factuality.
We also handmade a bunting sign that mirrored the cover of the programme.
