September 11 Memorial Garden
Exhibition

This garden (situated in Grosvenor Square, London) was designed to remember the British victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the USA. It opened on the second anniversary of the attacks, September 2003. To coincide with the opening, we were approached by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to design an exhibition of photographs that documented the construction of the garden.

We designed an oak veneered structure reflecting the wood used in the garden, that was strong enough to be freestanding but not imposing. We wanted the photographs to be almost floating in the space and mounted them so that they hovered in front of oak boxes that were anchored to the main structure. Exhibition text was screenprinted directly onto the wood, to help integrate it with the structure.
