Brochure / Art Direction
This Knightsbridge boutique's brochure is constructed in reverse – a heavy card centre-spread with three lighter tracing paper layers bound onto the outside. The abstracted sun image on the inner card was constructed from hand-cut layers of coloured tracing paper. We commissioned fashion photographer Barnaby Roper to shoot back-lit photographs which were then printed on the tracing paper layers to create virtual silhouettes, playing on the shop's name Mirage. The artificial sun created by the studio light aligns with the sun illustration beneath. The translucent paper allows show-through of the model's image on subsequent pages, giving the illusion of moving closer to the sun, and the haze lifting as the pages are turned. The silhouette concept allows the brochure to be used for several seasons as it doesn't give too much away about the specifics of the clothes, rather a general feeling of the shop's tastes.
